BabyShower for Dads

'BabyShower' , When we hear this word, immediately what comes to our mind is 'new mom' not 'new dad' ! Fathers are not usually invited to baby showers nor they really care to attend. Baby shower is a tradition which kickstarts parenting, There is no reason why expectant fathers can't be given showers. Not inviting dad-to-be's sends a distinct message to dads "Parenting details are only for moms, you don't need to worry about diapers, baby clothes, pacifiers , teething rings..etc.."

Nowadays, dads play a very important role in raising a baby, So they do deserve a dad style baby shower.

Here is how you do it ,'A daddy baby shower'.

#1. Send out a formal invitation to show the guys that it's a serious baby shower. If you think your friends would never attend a baby shower, even for dads, then send an email saying " FREE BEER, My house, Sunday 8.00 P.M. , Bring some diapers or a baby toy or no FREE BEER. Trust me, they will never stay at home after seeing this.

#2. Decorations : Anything that is tastefully done, in a deep-dish pizza and chicken wings. Don't forget the coke cans and poker chips.

#3. Games:
Any Baby shower should have good games, So why not this one ? Turn on ESPN , or better yet play Nintendo. Okay, Okay, Let's come out of some baby shower games for new dad. I can recommend " Guess the Poopy diaper". Traditionally what you do is buy a dozen or so different types of candy bars and a package of diapers. Melt the chocolate in the microwave and dump each messy candy-bar glob in a diaper. The game is everyone should guess the candy bar in each 'dirty' diaper. Or, you can leave the microwave and diaper part, Just eat the candy bars.

And one more interesting game, "Who took my wallet". The dad-to-be counts to 100, while guests hide his wallet (ofcourse after using his debit card to order pizzas and coke). The expectant father will be amused as he searches the living room, kichen , laundry room, basement..all over the house until he finally finds it crammed into his DVD player. This game gets the dad used to the idea that the prying little hands will place valuable items in unexpected places.

#4. Gifts :
Tools would be a great gift, The dad to be has a great project coming up, to assemble the changing table, crib and baby swing. Think cheap but helpful
You can also gift him with Knee pads , As all the time he is going to spend on the floor searching for missing screws, a magnifying glass for reading the instruction manuals, and a bottle of Advil for the headaches he will have after reading the instructions.

Gag gifts are fun too, get him a pair of ear plugs and suggest that he slip him in the night so he can honestly tell his wife he did'nt hear the baby crying. You can fake a doctor's note, saying dad's skin allergies to infant urine and feces, absolving him of ever changing diapers.

Keeping the fun part aside, I really think men should be included in the baby-shower tradition. Dads are parents too, after all. They deserve to celebrate their child's birth.
